Beyond Grief
(New year's eve 2009)
for anyone who have lost someone special.
My brother died.
We held his funeral.
I received lots of cards.
I needed them
and some phone calls, too.
I needed them.
then...within the month
They closed down his webpage at legacy.com
I received no cards or calls
I still needed them.
People went on their way.
Life is for the living.
Hurry, scurry
I feel so sad for humans
hurry, scurry
And after my full brother's life
( which was larger than all living men)
I only remember him for his small acts of kindness.
Which never happened when he was in a hurry.
It's been said:
We are always on to the next thing
so we don't stay with one thing
where the depth that is in everything
reveals itself to us.
but...I do not have to live like the scurrying crowd.
this beautiful world is for me!
I can swim and meditate
I can get closer to God
I can count my blessings
I can go slowly and enjoy the scenery even if the guy driving behind me is hurry scurry.
I can love my wife, children and congregation with passion
I can give tons of acts of kindness
I can be the meatball man!
Oh Divine Master
Grant that I seek to be consoled as to console.
The depth that is in everything
revealed itself to me through
my brother's death.
that is why death is the most sacred thing.
All there is left to do
is to be kind.
All there is left
is love.
